Why Pre Wedding Photography?
As a wedding photographer, based near the Lake District in Carlisle, I am often asked if I think having a pre-wedding photo session is a good idea. I must admit I think any photo session is a great idea as it captures a moment in time, but I am particularly fond of pre-wedding photography. This type of photo session is really helpful for all parties. Often a bride ties in the date of the photo session with makeup trials so that they can see how the final look will appear on their photos. The advantage of these sessions for the photographer is that they get to see how a couple react and interact with each other, what makes them laugh, what brings them together along with what looks good and how adventurous they are. From the point of view of the couple, they get to see how their chosen photographer works – are they as fun as they seem? Do they care about small details (but without stressing over perfection)?
Of course, one of the key questions is “do the photographs look good?” Are they edited in a similar way to those the photographer has already shown you, and do they capture the elements of that special time in a couples life just before they get married?
Meet Sally and Chris
Their pre-wedding photo session was carried out just after social distancing had been introduced, and the day before the United Kingdom started its many weeks of lockdown. Sally and Chris were due to get married in May, but due to the current circumstances, the wedding has now been postponed. At least we managed to get some fun photographs before that started!
These photos were taken at the little village of Dalston just outside of Carlisle, where the River Caldew flows on its way from the hills above Caldbeck down through Denton Holme until it reaches the sea just after Carlisle. With it being such a sunny day, many people taking advantage of the weather by walking with their dogs and families. The path that crosses the river proved to be popular, and this meant that we had a wait a little time before taking the photos at times (so that people’s heads were not photo-bombing the background of the shots!) The great couple kept smiling.
