Blaithwaite House Outdoor Spring Wedding

Carlisle Venues, Wedding Photography

Blaithwaite House, Cumbria

In the beautiful Cumbrian countryside, set between Keswick and Wigton, Blaithwaite House is one of my favourite wedding venues to photograph, with its walled rose garden, woodland, wetland area and affectionately named Mary Janes’ summer house.  The venue has so many different areas for taking amazing wedding photographs.

The venue is owned and operated by the Donald family, who have seen the house in their family since the 1700’s.  For many years Blaithwaite house has been used as a welcoming Christian Centre, accommodating church groups, youth groups and Christian unions, alongside this it has provided a haven for people to enjoy family holidays, group events and for school residentials.  Whilst at Blaithwaite House a number of people have told me that they have memories of coming to the venue when they were younger for retreats.

In recent years Blaithwaite House has started accommodating weddings and the natural setting along with the rustic barn was just what Claire and Mike were looking for in their ideal wedding venue.  They really wanted an outdoor wedding but knew that the weather in Cumbria during March can be very unpredictable and often cold.  Thankfully on their wedding day the sun came out and with the help of blankets put on some of the chairs, guests could keep warm whilst enjoying the first outdoor wedding of the year for Blaithwaite House.

The Bride and Groom

Claire and Mike met in 2011 through work at JD Sports in Workington, in the west of Cumbria.  They moved in together in 2013 and lived in a flat in Cockermouth.

2017 was a fantastic year for them as they had their amazing baby boy Jack in the April and then bought their first house together in the December.  In May 2018 Mike popped the question at Claires 30th birthday party just after Claire blew out the candles on her cake.  In front of all her family!

I asked them both what they love about each other and they said “We both have a similar whacky sense of humour and make each other laugh every day” This was certainly true on their wedding day as you can see from some of the photos.

Have a look at the below images from this amazing day. If you would like me to photograph your big day, please go ahead and contact me.
