Brydekirk is a village a few miles from Annan on the Scottish borders in the county of Dumfries and Galloway. The church sits proudly at the top of the village and can be seen as soon as you cross the bridge over the river Annan. I have driven through the village a few times and couldn’t fail but notice the church, but had never stopped and looked at it properly until I talked to Bruce and Andrea about their wedding blessing.
Bruce and Andrea were just a few weeks away from travelling across to Santorini, one of the Cyclades islands in the Aegean Sea for their magical Greek wedding.
Brydekirk as we know it know now, started to be built around 1822 by the Paisley Dirom family from Mount Annan.
The village was built around the river and made good use of it, with it powering a corn mill, a woolen mill and was used in the bleach field to bleach the cloth by the sun. The houses were to be built to Dirom’s plans by the people themselves and then a set rent was paid to Dirom.
At one time there was 3 grocers, a cooper, clog maker, miller, tailor, blacksmith and many other professions to be found in the village. The village probably has many professions living in it now, but most of them will travel to the surrounding towns to work, for example, Dumfries, Annan, Gretna or Carlisle.
Bruce has lived in the village most of his life and the church has very personal memories to him.
Pre-Wedding or Pre-Blessing photoshoots are a great informal way for me to work with couples. This allows them the freedom to see how I work and to see examples of my work prior to their wedding. If you are interested in a couples photoshoot, or of adding a pre-wedding photoshoot to your wedding then do get in touch.
