Lake District Wedding Venues
The Lake District is a great place for wedding venues. There’s a place for everyone’s taste, so no matter what your heart desires you will find a wedding venue for you. From small elopements, small groups or loads of friends and big parties, hotels, banquet halls, castles, tipis and barns; you will find something in the Lake District for you.
Here are some of the venues in and around the Lake District I have had the pleasure of capturing wedding photographs at recently.
Armathwaite Hall Hotel & Spa
Our first Lake District wedding venue is set close to the Bassenthwaite Lake in the shadow of Skiddaw and other Lake District fells, Armathwaite Hall Hotel & Spa is a beautiful location to get married. Recently I have photographed weddings both at the outdoor woodland gazebo and in the Estate Office Room with its beautiful lake view.
Askham Hall
The next Lake District wedding venue is Askham Hall which may be argued isn’t in the centre of the Lake District but is certainly on the outskirts and is set in the beautiful Eden valley. Askham Hall (near Penrith) is a 12th-century country house with beautiful gardens, a wedding barn and a spa; a truly unique venue which has so many different places for taking photographs, both inside and outside of this beautiful wedding venue.
Blaithwaite House
Blaithwaite House is a family-owned and operated Lake District wedding venue. Situated near Wigton to the north of Cumbria it has belonged to the same family since the 1700’s and has a Grade II listed main house, stables, barn and impressive gardens with an amazing summer house. This venue has so many photo opportunities for dry and wet weather, and a number of different locations to hold the wedding ceremony.
Irton Hall
Another beautiful Lake District wedding venue set on the west of the Lake District is Irton Hall. With its own church in the grounds and the dedicated wedding and event venue located next to the hall itself, the whole area is surrounded by beautifully landscaped grounds.
Laura Ashley The Belsfield Hotel
Set in the centre of the Lake District, this victorian Lake District wedding venue offers beautiful views across Lake Windermere from the small town of Bowness on Windermere, with six acres of landscaped gardens around – plenty of places to take outdoor photographs!
Muncaster Castle
Another spectacular Lake District Wedding Venue is the privately-owned Muncaster Castle. The Grade I listed castle overlooks the River Esk, about a mile east of the coastal town Ravenglass. The owners of this Lake District Wedding Venue (the Pennington’s) have owned this property for more than 800 years. The oldest parts of the castle, the great hall and pele tower are from the 14th Century.
The estate includes beautiful gardens and has an owl sanctuary and a maze, a great place for grooms to start their day.
The Inn on the Lake
Set in the picturesque village of Glenridding the Inn on the Lake offers amazing views of the fells and Ullswater Lake. A few minutes away from the ferry jetty often sees wedding guests having a trip on the lake.
Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa
If you are looking for a Lakeside Lake District Wedding Venue then the Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa is probably one of the closest to the lakes, in this case, Windermere. Not only is this a fantastic wedding venue but it also has on-site health club for an amazing relaxing start to your wedding day, with an indoor pool, jacuzzi, sauna, steam room and gym. Weddings often tie in a trip around the Lake on one of the Lake Districts passenger boats. which makes for a unique venue for wedding photographs.
To see some of the photos from these venues then why not have a look at my wedding portfolio
We are blessed with a lot of excellent venues, though with some of the older (and therefore usually darker inside) ones I’m not sure if they make your job any easier.
Is beautiful location for pictures for wedding or model profile pictures.. but yes dark is a problem for pictures like that I think.
