2012 has brought some changes to services we offer at Keltic Rose Photography.

The first to be announced is that anyone purchasing any photos from our photoshoots (excluding the Wendy Allen Dance photos) can request that we put the purchased photos on our facebook page as well for no extra cost.

Once they are on our facebook page you can tag yourself and your friends so the pictures show up on your timelines.

Why not have a photoshoot party

With print prices from as low as £5 for a 6″ x 4″ photo can you really go wrong?  Prints, Canvases, Books – Whatever you require have a look at our prices on http://www.kelticrose.co.uk

From now on we will be offering you this size at £5 per 6″ x 4″ photo print unmounted.

We also offer framed prints, canvases, photos on disk and books

If we take a picture out of one of our cameras.  It has a ratio of 4:3, so without cropping the photo we can print pictures at size 7.5″ x 5″, 9″ x 6″ and 12″ x 8.

So what happens if you want a 10″ x 8″ photo?  Well 10″ x 8″ is in a different ratio 5:4 so that means that we need to do something to our photo to get it to fit a 10″ x 8″ photo.  We probably need to crop it so that areas of the picture are removed (or sometimes added) to allow the picture to fit.  If the picture is a studio photo with a white background that it can be just as easy to add bits of white to the background as it is to remove it.

In the photo of Toyah below the green line is where a 10″ x 8″ photo would be cropped, and the orange line is the full 4:3 ratio, so 7.5″ x 5″  On an image like this there is no problem it is just black background, but image if this was a photo of your guests from your wedding.

Sometimes photos just wont go into the aspect ratio that we want. 

Let’s say we took a photo of you and all your friends on the dance floor at a party, and you are on one end of the picture and your best friend is at the other end (when we view it out of the camera).  If you asked for a 10″ x 8″ picture then what do we do?  Cut off your best friend? or add a white border to the whole picture.  It can be quite difficult, and at times we might recommend that a picture just doesn’t look right or wont work in a certain size.

At 9:30 we headed off to Candice’s mum’s house to capture for history Candice getting ready for her wedding.  With visits from Vicki from Zenya styling the hair, and Blusha of Dumfries applying the makeup the morning went really quick, and thankfully the rain died away and the sunshine came out, allowing us to get some photographs of Candice and her mum and dad beside the fantastic Beauford car owned by Derek Scott.

Meanwhile our second photographer was at Johnny’s house capturing the lads getting ready.

At Wetheral church I met up with Johnny and Tony his best man, and with guests assembled the scene was set for a fantastic wedding.

The sun stayed out all through the wedding, and even allowed us to take some photographs outside the church where doves from “Doves for all Occasions” were released to symbolise external love.  We then took Candice and Johnny away to a location close to Wetheral viaduct for a few images to capture the special day.  Storm clouds were gathering, and in the distance we could hear the rumbles of thunder, so off to the reception at the Creighton Rugby Club in Carlisle we went for a fantastic reception.

The day didn’t end there, with food provided by the Vallum Hotel, and a cake to cut and of course the first dance.

We left the couple enjoying the rest of the party at 8:30 and we headed home to backup the images and start working on getting them ready to show.

An amazing day all round, and thankfully the weather didn’t spoil any of it!

Many people think that we take the pictures, then upload the photos, which is often what people do when they have been to a party and want the pictures on Facebook quickly.

So what do we do?

First we put all the photos on to our computer, and at this stage put keywords into the photos so that they can be found quickly if need be.
The photos are then backed up to blueray discs and to additional hard drives.  We would hate to loss any photos having taken them.
Next we go through the photos and remove any where people have been blinking or dont look very good.
If we have carried out a photoshoot at an event that the local paper might be interested in, then we pick a few photos and fast track them through the rest of the processing stage, so that the paper can pick them up often within a few hours of an event.
We go through the photos a number of times and whittle them down to what our team feel are the best images.

These images are then run through photoshop to carry out sharpening, colour saturation and any other processes that we feel are necessary to make them look fantastic.  This might involve airbrushing, blemish removal or retouching.

Once the images are created they are all backed up many times and then small versions are created along with  relevant web pages and posted on www.kelticrose.co.uk with some being put on www.facebook.com/kelticrose and of course some used on this very blog.

The images are then available to buy for around little while before they are removed from our website and in many cases the images files are then deleted..
